Both the MP 40 and MP 38 were submachine guns developed in Germany during WW2 and used extensively by the Fallschirmjager, platoon and squad leaders, police units and other specialist troops. Both weapons were called, incorrectly, Schmeisser by the allied troops. (Hugo Schmeisser had nothing to do with their design or production!) the majority of German soldiers still carried the Karabiner 98K bolt action rifle. However on certain occasions, towards the end of the war, entire assault platoons were issued with the MP 40 and its derivatives on a limited basis
Also prized by resistance groups throughout occupied Europe.
